Today in first period chemistry, I had a sub. Suddenly, he spoke and taught everyone japanese! He was African-American who learned the language while he was in the army. So with my little, limited knowledge of speaking japanese I spoke with him. Most people in my class couldn't understand what was being said at all. It was interesting too how he teaches the japanese words, although he sticks to the formal side too much. He could've just said " mondai nai" instead of some long word I forgot to remember. I don't know if he's still there tomorrow, I hope so!

well older ppl more often like the traditional since it was taught more than the "slang" that we hear in anime and other things... and thats CRAZY i wish that could happen to me! but the only thing is all the nerdy white boys(no offense to anyone) would start jabbering about anime to him prolly

We hear the informal dialogue in anime and such, but I guess people who would want to learn a language would go for the formal just because it will seem more important to them. I wouldn't expect him to watch anime, but I won't be surprised if he does or he did. I think he is old enough to have taken part in WWII and after and must've been stationed in japan.

well i think that chaos would be the most nerdy kid in his class...since it seems like all the other kids didnt know ANY japanese so they prolly dont watch any anime(or dubs which is like not watching anime)...and what r u chaos? 1st in class or something...thats what some of our friends told me... no offense or anything

In fact, only 2 people in the whole class knows japanese, me and another friend who's korean and watches bleach subs. There is one kid who watches dub, which sucks for him. And yes I am 1st in class... why does this question brought up?

it's too bad his vocab is extremely limited.. he only knows how to speak formal. Anyways, he wasn't here today.. how sad. Still that moment was classic. They should have japanese class in US schools, shouldn't they? My school is doing chinese next year.

same with my school...some of my friends r taking japanese at school...jsut our schools must think it wouldnt be too popular...
truth is that japanese would prolly be more popular since there is more dialects of chinese so ppl would be dissapointed when they cant speak mandarin to a cantonese speaker.
japanese doesnt have that problem and i would totally take it
