Initial D (頭文字(イニシャル)D, Inisharu Dī?, transliteration, "Kashiramoji Dī") is a manga by Shuichi Shigeno which has been serialized in Kodansha's Young Magazine since 1995. It has been adapted into a long-running anime series by Pastel, Studio Gallop, and OP Planning, which premiered in Japan on Fuji TV and Animax, and a live action film by Avex and Media Asia. Both the manga and anime series were licensed for distribution in North America by Tokyopop.

The anime and manga focus on the world of illegal Japanese street racing, where all the action is concentrated in the mountain passes and never in cities nor urban areas, and the drift racing style is emphasized in particular. Keiichi Tsuchiya helps with editorial supervision. The story is centered around the Japanese prefecture of Gunma, more specifically on several mountains in the prefecture and in and their surrounding cities and towns. Although some of the names of the locations the characters race in have been fictionalized, all of the locations in the series are based on actual locations in Gunma Prefecture.

this is one of the best animes in my collection. an 8-6 trueno beating all these other cars is just amazing.

yey  drifter anime, baby! my brother was really into that stuff so he listened to all the soundtracks when he was driving.
it's pretty fun stuff.

I saw this anime, it was pretty darn good. I'm a big fan of street racing, espically drifting so this anime really hooked me. Those of you who are kinda iffy on watching it, if you've seen The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift and liked it, you'll love this anime ^_^

Seen the movie version of this anime.  I got into racing sometime ago, this was the anime to watch that's for sure.  I think they did a good job in making it very realistic.

I did a drift with my old car, it was a hyundai accant coupe...1.6 and it was pretty gd, i didnt wreck it or anything just ended up doing a 360 degree turn LOL

I liked Initial D, I'm not much of a Drifting fan though, I like Rallies and Scoobies (Subarus). Le Mans, Indy Car, Champ Car, and F1 Series are awesome too, not too fond of Left-turn Racing though (NASCAR).

I got into another anime right after that called Wangan Midnight, immediately afterwards followed by a 36 hour gaming marathon plus a couple of weekends of Tokyo Extreme Racer 3.
