You would think as much but they were all tired from fighting his external self for soo long.  All the while his external self gained more and more power.  They went past the time they normally do and said they were going to kill him after that time but they didn't.  The external self near the end of his inner battle was capable of a very high level cero blast and it was strong enough the person fighting was going to have to pull out his mask...  I think it woulda been just like when he one except that his skin would be white when he came out and his eyes yellow.  The hollow self would have pulled out the mask and unleashed hell upon the vizards around.
