Actually its Shunko... and Bankai's 2nd release... not 3rd... if your wondering why... the normal katana form is NOT a RELEASED form, its a sealed form, so its not included as a released.

Also Bankai is a word that means 2nd release, why call bankai 3rd release, when it actually means 2nd release?

Oh yea, Bankai is the final and 3rd stg of the shinigami's sword.

As for its use in the animé, well, each zanpakutou has three stages of release. The first, 'sealed' form is, with a few exceptions, just a simple katana, and has no special abilities. The shikai is the release that most decent-ranking Shinigami can achieve, but is only a partial release, and can be achieved simply by learning the zannpakutou's name. It usually has the form of a new type of weapon and special abilities associated with it. The bankai, which multiplies the shikai's strength by five to ten times, is achieved by gaining a true bond with your zanpakutou's spirit, and calling it into the physical world. It is the mark of a captain-level shinigami to have managed to achieve this, and even then, achieving it usually takes ten years' training, and a further ten years are needed to master using it. The first ten years' training can be bypassed by the dangerous method of using a special doll, created by Urahara, to call the zanpakutou's spirit into the physical world, but circumventing the natural development of bankai like this is neither a widely-known technique nor exactly safe. Once achieved, bankai is released by speaking the word 'bankai', and generally takes on an extremely large, extremely powerful form that is often some kind of extension of the shikai's abilities. The exception is Ichigo's bankai, Tensa Zangetsu, which rather than becoming huge, condenses all its power into an ordinary blade and grants Ichigo himself phenomenal speed, as well as an attacking power not to be taken lightly.

I like how active people have been on this thread. The fact that there is at least 1 character in EVERY team at least shows we all agree on a few things ^_^ With the different attributes to each Bleach character, you can actually start to get an image of everyone's personality by who their "dream team" is ^_^ Some are well rounded commanders, some are mainly offensive, with 1 or 2 being primarily defensive.


P.S. My dream team > urs!

Yes, I am with you all the way.  Gotta have your back-ups, Ishida's my shooter...although he may not be the strongest one but he sure can hit a lot of them all at once which is a plus in case a Grimmjow and Ichigo case happens where Ichigo is on the verge of death.  Then...an arrow comes shooting!!

Mayuri and Ukitake for Genius plans and power
Unohana for healing Bankai power
Kyoraku cuz he owns

Then of course Ichigo, Chad, Ishida, Rukya, Renji, Nell and her buddies are there without permission so they dont count. That would Own. But Aizen is still undefeated
