Well considering how long it took for the actual Gotei 13 captains to release their bankais, I think that they'll use it as a last resort if at all.

they may not need to use bankai (:Tor if they get to the point where they would need to use it they would probably be on the brink of death and it would either "time out" or kill them...

If there masks can only be used at shiki or no state then y cant they just realese bankia without the mask and kill the espada.
